The Minnesota Timberwolves NBA basketball franchise will launch a new direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming platform through a five-year partnership with global OTT service DAZN.

As part of a new local media rights agreement with DAZN, the streamer has been named the exclusive DTC home for Timberwolves basketball coverage across its local broadcast territory.

Through a new team-branded subscription service launching later this summer, 15 games will be available for free this season, as well as access to broader team content.

The subscription service will be available throughout the entirety of the Timberwolves' home broadcast territory, which includes full coverage across Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, with partial coverage extending into Kansas and Wisconsin.

DAZN will deliver live Timberwolves games alongside a slate of additional content, including pre- and post-game shows, highlights, behind-the-scenes storytelling, and original programming.

The team’s games will be available live and on demand. Production for all local game broadcasts, including pregame and postgame coverage, will be provided by the NBA.

Throughout the season, DAZN will also launch new interactive features including live in-game fan chats, polls, quizzes, and games.

Matthew Caldwell, Timberwolves & Lynx CEO, said: “Our commitment to the best possible fan experience is what drives everything we do.

“With DAZN, we’re delivering on that promise, bringing Timberwolves basketball directly to fans through a modern streaming experience that expands reach with 15 free games and meets fans wherever they are.”

Shay Segev, DAZN Group CEO, added: “The NBA is one of the most popular leagues in the world and the Timberwolves are an indelible part. Bringing a team of this caliber onto DAZN is an amazing addition to our growing US sports portfolio.”

This deal comes immediately after DAZN made its long-awaited entry into the US local-broadcast market, sweeping up the local rights to New York’s NBA, MLB (baseball), and NHL (ice hockey) teams through a pair of new carriage agreements with MSG Networks (MSGN) and YES Network.

As part of the new carriage agreement, DAZN becomes the exclusive direct-to-consumer streaming home of seven elite New York-area (city and state) sports teams – the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets (NBA), New York Yankees (MLB), and the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, and New Jersey Devils (NHL).

At the beginning of 2026, DAZN was in talks to acquire the now-defunct regional sports network operator Main Street Sports Group (MSSG), and with it a wide swathe of local MLB, NBA, and NHL rights, but that deal never came to fruition, with MSSG then falling into insolvency following the 2025-26 NHL campaign.

The Timberwolves’ local games were previously shown by MSSG through its FanDuel Sports Network before the collapse of the regional sports network model.

Unlike other Minnesota sports teams, the Timberwolves will not have a traditional cable or over-the-air television broadcast partner for the upcoming season.
