Pay-TV broadcaster AzamTV has acquired non-exclusive rights to Spanish soccer’s LaLiga in Sub-Saharan Africa for the next five seasons.

The long-term agreement will begin with the 2024-25 campaign and run through 2028-29.

Tanzania-based AzamTV will provide coverage of live matches, as well as highlights, analysis, interviews, and behind-the-scenes content.

As part of the deal, the broadcaster has also secured rights to Spain’s second-tier Segunda Division.

African pay-TV giant SuperSport currently holds English-language rights to LaLiga in the region until the end of the 2023-24 season. Canal Plus holds French-language rights under a multi-year deal signed at the start of the 2022-23 campaign.

Sub-Saharan African players currently contracted to LaLiga teams include Athletic Club’s Iñaki Williams (Ghana), Valencia’s Mouctar Diakhaby (Guinea), Villarreal’s Eric Bailly and Celta Vigo’s Jonathan Bamba (Ivory Coast), and Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq (Nigeria)
