Heavyweight pay-TV broadcaster Sky Italia has announced new deals covering national team soccer, rugby union, and sailing’s 2024 Americas Cup.

In an update yesterday (July 4), the network said it would be showing all 51 matches from soccer’s 2024 UEFA European Championships, 20 of them exclusively.

That tournament, for which Italy are attempting to qualify over the next few months, will take place across 10 German venues between June 14 and July 14.

The last Euros, a pan-European affair in 2021, were won by Italy and made available throughout the country by public-service broadcaster Rai.

In rugby union, meanwhile, the broadcaster has snapped up rights until 2025 to a slate of top-tier national team competitions.

These include the upcoming 2023 Summer Nations Series, the 2024 and 2025 Six Nations pan-European tournament in which Italy takes part (men’s and women’s editions), and the 2024 and 2025 Autumn Nations Series.

The Under-20 Six Nations will also be covered by Sky Italia.

The previous deal through which Sky Italia covered the Six Nations was announced in June 2021 and was set to expire at the end of this year.

The opening match of this new rights cycle takes place on July 29, with the men’s team taking on Scotland.

For the 37th edition of the iconic America’s Cup international sailing event, Sky Italia will cover the event itself in Barcelona late next year, as well as the various preliminary regattas leading up to that point.

The America’s Cup match itself is scheduled to begin on October 12.

This week has also seen Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset announce America’s Cup rights.

Mediaset will air live coverage of the event on its Italia Uno and Canale 20 channels from August 22 (next year) until the end of October.

The teams competing in the event include the Italian Luna Rossa.

Sky Italia completes a quadruple of major rights deals with these three announcements – earlier this week, the pay-TV broadcaster confirmed the extension of its tie-up with North America’s National Basketball Association (NBA).

The extension will see Sky Italia continue as the NBA’s official broadcaster and website operator in Italy. This will involve Sky Italia airing over 300 live NBA matches per season across its linear channels and digital services.

Also included are primetime weekend games as part of the league’s NBA Saturdays and NBA Sundays European primetime initiative, which features games taking place in slots more suitable to a European audience.
