British heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte will renew their long-standing rivalry at the O2 Arena in London, UK, on August 12.
A capacity crowd of 20,000 will be expected at the venue for the fight, which will draw significant interest both in the UK and globally while perhaps falling short of being at the very top of boxing draws currently. Tickets are priced variously between £40 ($51) and £800, the latter of which will buy VIP entry.
The bout will be broadcast exclusively live around the world by sports streaming platform DAZN, with it to be offered to viewers in the UK and Ireland on a pay-per-view basis at a cost of £26.99.
Both fighters are coming into the matchup off the back of wins by judges' decisions against the US’ Jermaine Franklin – Joshua unanimously in April this year, following Whyte by majority in November 2022.
However, both are also trying to secure or resecure places at the very top table of boxing, with Joshua having gone the length but lost twice – in 2021 and 2022 – in blockbuster bouts with the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Whyte losing by technical knockout to fellow Brit – and arguably boxing’s biggest draw at present – Tyson Fury last year.
At their last meeting in 2015, also at the O2, Joshua stopped Whyte in the seventh round. That represented revenge for a Whyte victory when both were still amateurs in 2009.

By GlobalDataJoshua went on to win Olympic gold and then unify the heavyweight division, winning the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles before losing them to the US’ Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, reclaiming them later that year, but losing them again in his first meeting with Usyk. Whyte has twice held the WBC title, which he lost most recently to Fury.
Eddie Hearn, the chair of promoter Matchroom Boxing, which represents both Joshua and Whyte, said: “I can’t quite believe this fight is happening and there was absolutely no stopping either man. The rivalry runs deep and there is something about these two where they will never back down from each other.
“At times it may have looked like a game of bluff but now we are set and with everything that’s on the line this is an absolute must-win for both. Just like the first time at the O2, get ready for fireworks on August 12 and a huge night of boxing live on DAZN.”
Joseph Markowski, chief executive for North America at DAZN Group, added: “It is great to have Anthony Joshua back fighting on the platform so soon after his fight in April. We want ‘AJ’ in the biggest fights and in Dillian Whyte this is a massive one – reigniting a feud that has bubbled away for well over a decade. August 12 promises to be fireworks. Watch a night of all-out action, live and exclusive on DAZN around the world and on DAZN pay-per-view in the UK and Ireland.”
