Spanish soccer’s LaLiga will launch an alternative premium subscription service of its LaLigaSportsTV over-the-top sports streaming platform from next month.
Ahead of its fourth season in operation, the Spanish league announced there will be two versions of the OTT offering, with the addition of LaLigaSportsTV Plus, which will feature exclusive content under subscription.
LaLigaSportsTV, which has broadcast sports content for free for three seasons, will now require a paid subscription for some of its key live sports content including the Liga ASOBAL, the top Spanish handball league, the LNFS, the national futsal league, and the LEB Oro, the second-tier basketball league, Asian soccer’s AFC Champions League, Russian Premier League and mixed martial arts’ ONE Championship.
A subscription will cost €2.99 per month or €19.99 per year. LaLiga also has an initial promotional offer whereby users can have access to the premium content for three months if they pay for a month.
The free LaLigaSportsTV platform will continue to be in operation and feature some of the content it rolled out in the last three years, such as athletics, gymnastics, triathlon, tennis, kickboxing, Muay Thai and surfing.
In addition, new competitions, such as the domestic Volleyball Super League and the Liga Nacional de Hockey sobre Hielo, the top Spanish ice hockey league, have been incorporated this year.

By GlobalDataAlfredo Bermejo, director of digital strategy at LaLiga, said: “The creation of this package represents a great evolution for our OTT. We have been in the market for three years and we believe that it is time to go a step further by offering our best content for a highly competitive price.
“It is an evolution in the product, beginning to monetise our premium content through the subscription model and with an attractive initial offer for our users. Our idea is to continue offering quality content and exploring new commercial avenues for monetisation.”
Aside from its live offering, LaLigaSportsTV features content such as reports, interviews, documentaries and highlights programmes from different competitions.
The OTT platform dates back to 2016, when it was launched to provide free-to-air coverage of sports that do not necessarily benefit from extensive TV exposure, and it was relaunched in 2019 with various new sport-specific channels.
LaLigaSportsTV is widely available in Spain via iOS and Android mobile apps as well as through distribution agreements with Samsung, Vodafone, Orange and Movistar. The platform can also be found via LG Smart TVs, Android TV and laligasportstv.com.
It claims to have over 1.8 million registered users.
