L’Equipe, the French free-to-air (FTA) digital terrestrial channel, and the Skweek streaming platform have acquired domestic rights to French basketball’s top-tier Betclic Elite through 2030.
The seven-year deal, announced today (June 29), was agreed with the LNB, the French basketball league, and has been described as an “unprecedented” tie-up. The agreement is worth around €2.5 million per year.
L’Equipe and Skweek replace international pay-TV broadcaster BeIN Sports which has held rights to the competition in France for the last two seasons.
The Betclic Elite will be returning to L’Equipe after the FTA platform showed the league in the 2020-21 season.
As part of the new long-term deal, L’Equipe will broadcast one regular season game per week on Sunday afternoons, as well as 10 playoff matches (including the finals), three Leaders Cup matches, and the All-Star game.
Meanwhile, Skweek will show all regular season and playoff matches from the Betclic Elite, the finals, the entire Leaders Cup, and the All-Star game.

By GlobalDataThe LNB has additionally struck a production agreement with 21 Production, a subsidiary of the L'Equipe group.
The firm will be responsible for producing all matches across the competition.
The second-tier French ProB Championship, meanwhile, will be available on the league’s in-house LNB.TV streaming platform.
The deal bolsters Skweek’s basketball portfolio as it already holds exclusive rights in France and Monaco to the EuroLeague and EuroCup club competitions. The OTT platform was launched by multinational export and logistics company Fedcom in October 2022.
Philippe Ausseur, president of the LNB, said: “This historic agreement with the L'Equipe channel and Skweek demonstrates the unprecedented attractiveness of BetClic Élite.
“I am very happy with this long-term commitment, which will allow the clubs to continue their development and professional basketball to shine even more by increasing its exposure.”
Jérôme Saporito, L'Equipe director of TV, added: “This long-term collaboration with the LNB allows the L'Equipe channel to expand its rights portfolio.
“I am very happy with the establishment of this new partnership with Skweek. It's a new chapter that opens together and we will offer the best in terms of broadcasting to basketball lovers. We will develop innovative production in line with the need to reduce the carbon footprint of broadcasting such an event.”
