The International Hockey Federation (FIH) governing body has announced a media rights agreement with UK public broadcaster the BBC for its upcoming Olympic qualifiers.

The agreement will allow the BBC to broadcast all British matches, for both the men’s and women’s teams.

The women’s team, who won the bronze medal at the last Olympics in Tokyo, will play in Valencia, Spain from January 13 to 21, while the men’s team is set to compete in Muscat, Oman, from January 15 to 21.

FIH president Tayyab Ikram added: “Signing an agreement with such a respected, global, and historical broadcaster as the BBC is a demonstration of how these FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers are a fantastic opportunity to showcase our sport.”

The qualifiers will produce 12 teams for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the GB women’s team in pool B with Spain, Canada, and Malaysia, while the men’s team is in pool A with Malaysia, Pakistan, and China.

Last week, the FIH also agreed a deal with US national network CBS to showcase the US women’s hockey team’s qualifying matches for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on its CBS Sports channel.
