Sky New Zealand, the prominent pay-TV operator in that country, has brought on board Gary Burchett as its new head of sports content.

Burchett joins from his previous role at the Disney Star Indian media conglomerate, where he had served as director of talent, international sport, and news gathering, since May last year.

In total, he had been at Disney Star since March 2018, while before that he held multiple editorial roles at the Fox Sports network in Australia between 2005 and 2015.

He has also worked for Network Ten in Australia, Sky Sports in the UK, and the Cricket Hong Kong governing body.

Sky NZ is the most prominent sports broadcaster in New Zealand, with its most recent deal being a renewal with the International Cricket Council through 2028, unveiled in late May.

Ever since the Spark New Zealand telco shut its sports streaming service last summer, Sky has been the primary holder of pay-TV rights in the country.
