DAZN, the international subscription streaming platform, has expanded its combat sports offering after securing global rights to French mixed martial arts promotion Hexagone MMA until March 2023.
Under the deal, DAZN will broadcast the promotion on its platform in Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, the UK, the US, and “many other countries globally,” starting with the Hexagone MMA 4 event in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on August 28.
The rights were sold by Hexagone MMA’s distribution partner Fighting Spirit.
Jérôme Pourrut, co-founder of Hexagone MMA, said: “We are delighted to join DAZN, the first global platform for sports. For the first time in MMA history, a European franchise will become global.
“This is a major achievement for MMA in Europe. Our partnership with DAZN will give tremendous exposure to athletes across the continent in this growing sport, which will soon be among the top five sports in the world.”
Last month, the promotion announced that two of its competitions this year will be held outside France, starting with August’s event in Dubai. The second event will be held in Oberhausen, Germany, on October 15.
