The E1 Series, which is being promoted as the world’s first electric powerboating competition, has launched a bidding process for cities around the world interested in hosting dates on its calendar.

The process will be managed on behalf of the series by The Sports Consultancy (TSC), the London-based sports and events agency.

TSC will invite cities to formally express their interest for the first season and beyond in seasons two and three.

The eight-race season will consist of up to 10 teams made up of a team owner and two pilots, one male and one female.

E1 claims the series will attract a potential global media reach of 180 million fans.

Rodi Basso, co-founder and chief executive of E1, said: “I’m pleased to be partnering with TSC to launch the host city bidding process for season one and beyond. It has a strong track record in this field and we know that we can rely on its expertise, as well as plug into its global network to identify suitable host cities for the championship.

“The calendar for E1’s inaugural season is already taking shape with multiple races in the Middle East and Europe. Together with TSC, we’re looking forward to adding more iconic cities to the calendar and bring E1 to new audiences.”

Angus Buchanan, managing director and co-founder of TSC, added: “We are delighted to be working with the world’s first electric raceboat championship.

“With a mission to have a positive environmental impact in host cities’ waters and to educate on ground-breaking sustainable technology, we are ready to use our expertise, experience, and contacts to help secure host city partners for the UIM E1 World Championship.”

Last month (January), Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal was announced as a new E1 team owner.

E1 is the first electric raceboat championship sanctioned by the International Powerboating Federation (UIM) governing body. It was launched in 2020, with a mission of accelerating clean mobility and restoring marine ecosystems.

UK-based sports and entertainment consultancy PTI Digital has been appointed to develop a digital strategy for the series and digital production company Curveball for a range of media services.

Partners so far include Simrad, Victory Marine, SeaBird, C-Map, Mercury Racing, Kreisel, and International Insurance Group.

The dates for the inaugural season of E1 have yet to be announced.
