USA's Wave gets Liga MX and WBSC archive content in Mediapro pact
Wave, the fledgling sports media outfit in USA, has struck a distribution agreement with Mediapro, the international media rights and production agency, for Mexican soccer and a host of top baseball and softball content.
The agreement covers Liga MX, the top Mexican soccer league, the WBSC Baseball and Softball World Cups and the Premier 12, baseball's men's national team championships.
There will be no live sport on offer, with Wave to have access and rights to use unlimited archive content and highlights to create videos to be shared across its digital platforms.
Irantzu Diez-Gamboa, president of Mediapro US, said: "The agreement is part of the group's ongoing initiative to explore new opportunities for brand exposure and revenue-creation for the properties it represents."
Daniel Maas, vice-president of partnerships, Wave, added: "We’re very excited to be working with Mediapro, LigaMX, and the WBSC baseball and softball properties. LigaMX is one of the strongest football leagues in North America and all LATAM. WBSC Baseball and Softball World Cups offer a global perspective to the sport and are a great addition to our growing baseball vertical."
In July 2019, Mediapro acquired exclusive rights across the Americas to all events on the World Baseball Softball Confederation calendar to 2022, while it has an agreement in place with Televisa, the Mexican commercial broadcaster, to distribute the media rights to seven teams outside of Mexico and USA.
