River Plate poised to team up with Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines, Turkey's national carrier, is set to sign a significant sponsorship contract with Argentinan soccer giants River Plate, the reigning club champions of South America.
Rodolfo D'Onofrio, president of River Plater, travelled to Turkey this week to meet with Ilker Ayci, chairman of Turkish Airlines, according to reports in the country.
Under the terms of the proposed deal, Turkish Airlines will have its logo on the front of River's shirts, and branding around the clubs Estadio Monumental home.
Buenos Aires rivals Boca Juniors, which River defeated in last year's Copa Libertadores final, have a five-year sponsorship deal in place with another airline prominent in sports sponsorship in Qatar Airways, which came into effect in July 2018.
River Plate's shirt sponsor was BBVA Francés, the Argentinian arm of the Hispanic banking giant, which was also the main sponsor of Boca until they teamed up with Qatar Airways.
