SNCF is second local sponsor for 2019 Women's World Cup
SNCF, the French train company, has become the second local sponsor of the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
SNCF becomes an official national supporter of the tournament, as well as this month's Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup, which gets under way in Brittany on Sunday. It will also be the official national rail transporter of both tournaments.
The deal was agreed with both Fifa and the 2019 local organising committee.
Arkema, the France-headquartered, international chemicals manufacturer, was the first local sponsor for next year's World Cup, coming on board in April. It is expected that there will be six national supporters of the tournament.
Noël Le Graët, president of the French Football Federation, and of the organising committee, said: “Given that it [SNCF] exists primarily to connect cities to each other, it is the perfect collaborator for a competition such as the Fifa Women’s World Cup, which aims to bring French people and football fans from around the world together in celebration of the same passion. This deal will be crucial to the success of these two Fifa World Cups in France, as the SNCF will play a key role in the organisation of the events and their successful staging.”
SNCF is a strong supporter of major sports events in France, having been a domestic sponsor of soccer's Euro 2016 European Championships and backed Paris' successful bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.
The 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup will be played between 7 June and 7 July in Paris, Lyon, Nice, Rennes, Montpellier, Valenciennes, Reims, Grenoble and Le Havre.
