UK topped Formula 1 tweets league in 2017
There were 4.3 million posts about Formula 1 around the races on Twitter last year, according to a new report.
Findings issued by Kantar Media Spain ahead of the new season showed that UK fans were the most active on Twitter, accounting for 590,000 of the tweets sent in the four-hour window of each race (starting one hour before the start and ending one hour after the finish).
This was more than double the number of the next three countries, Italy (256,000), Brazil (252,000) and Spain (251,000). The top nine were rounded out by the Netherlands, USA, Mexico, Argentina and Turkey.
The individual race that attracted the most tweets was the European Grand Prix in Baku, Azerbaijan (pictured), with around 300,000.
The 2018 Formula 1 season starts with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this weekend.
