Drake Relays added to USATF digital offering
USA Track & Field, the national governing body for athletics, is to provide exclusive online coverage of the Drake Relays, the annual event held at Des Moines in Iowa, for the next three years under a new rights deal.
There will be full coverage of the Drake Relays on USATF.TV, the federation’s digital subscription platform, beginning with this year’s edition at Drake University, which takes place from 27 to 29 April.
The event dates back to 1910 and the 2017 meeting is set to involve around 70 Olympics athletes.
The USATF.TV coverage will be complemented by ‘Olympic Rematches’, a special two-hour programme on cable and satellite television channel NBCSN between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday featuring the best action from the Drake Relays.
The show will also be available via the network’s new live streaming subscription service NBC Sports Gold.
Last year, NBC Sports Group signed an exclusive eight-year agreement with USATF to show the association’s main events, and this month it launched a ‘Track and Field Pass’ on NBC Sports Gold, which enables athletics fans to watch over 25 USATF and IAAF events in 2017, including the World Championships in London and all 14 Diamond League meetings, for a price of $69.99.
USATF.TV is already showing the Penn Relays, to be held at the University of Pennsylvania, on 27 to 29 April, in a four-year deal announced in February, and that event will also receive coverage on NBCSN and NBC Sports Gold.
