UK Sponsorship Market Valued at £400 million
The size of the sports sponsorship market should be an easy statistic to remember, since it now stands at £400.5m according to the latest figures released from Ipsos-RSL’s Sportscan publication. This is up £24m year-on-year, marking a 6.4% market increase and reflecting the continued use of sponsorship as a marketing tool.
Major contributions came from companies such as Vodafone’s £30m, four-year deal with Manchester United FC, NatWest’s £6m, three-year deal for cricket’s One Day Internationals and One2One’s £2.5m renewal with Everton FC.
Of the 859 current sponsorship deals in the Sportscan database, the finance/insurance industry continues to have the greatest number of existing deals very closely followed by the sports goods industry.
The market estimates are, and always have been, conservative by necessity but do provide a useful year-by-year comparison by using the same factors each year.
