CAS Renders Its Decision in Case Mclain Ward

On 11 January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided on the appeal of Mr McLain Ward (USA) against the decision of the FEI Judicial Committee of 22 September 1999. That decision was upheld with one modification that the suspension was reduced from eight to six months. Thus all additional penalties issued by the FEI Judicial Committee were confirmed and in addition, Mr McLain Ward will have to pay the Court Office fee of CHF 500 and CHF 1000 as a contribution to the costs of the FEI in the CAS. At a routine bandage /boot control during CHIO Aachen in June 1999, plastic chips were found in the right front boot of Mr McLain Ward’s horse Beneton. After having considered written and oral evidences, the Judicial Committee had decided to suspend Mr McLain Ward – for abuse of horse – for a period of 8 month, and fined him CHF 2500 and CHF 5000 as contribution to the costs of the judicial procedure.
