Long-serving Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) executive Andrew Georgiou is leaving the sports media heavyweight to become CEO of Global Sports Group, the sports investment platform of private equity investment giant CVC Capital Partners.
He will take up his new position in the first quarter of 2027.

The move will end Georgiou’s seven-and-a-half-year stint at WBD, which was recently absorbed into Skydance alongside Paramount to create a media behemoth.
Georgiou will replace Stefano Gastaut as CEO of GSG. Gastaut, who joined CVC in 2020, will remain on the GSG board and return to his role as operating partner at the private equity group.
GSG – considered the largest fund in sports equity – was formed in September 2025 and is led by Marc Allera, hired by CVC in May after spending almost a decade at UK telecommunications business EE.
The GSG leadership also includes Michelle Wilson and George Barrios, former executives at wrestling’s WWE, who handle brand, fan engagement, and content responsibilities.
The global sports platform features eight leagues and competitions including Spanish soccer’s LaLiga, France’s Ligue 1, Volleyball World, Prem Rugby, United Rugby Championship, Six Nations, WTA Ventures (tennis) and Equine Network.
On Georgiou’s appointment, Allera said: “Andrew is an exceptional leader and exactly the kind of CEO appointment that reflects our ambition for GSG. He combines deep knowledge of global sport with a proven track record of building businesses, developing major partnerships, and creating commercial value to reinvest for the benefit of the fans, athletes, and other stakeholders in the sport.
“His decision to join GSG also speaks to the scale of the opportunity for GSG. We are building much more than a portfolio of great sports businesses: our aim is to create a group that can bring genuinely differentiated expertise and capabilities to our partner leagues to help them accelerate their revenue growth.
“We would also like to thank Stefano Gastaut for his leadership in establishing GSG and building strong foundations for its future, including developing the team and capabilities and helping to complete GSG’s first new investment into Equine Network. We’re delighted he will remain on the GSG board as he returns to his role as operating partner at CVC.”
At WBD, experienced sports media executive Georgiou was responsible for the company’s business in the UK & Ireland as well as sport and streaming across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Since the Skydance merger, he has been serving as the company’s interim president of Europe and Africa.
Georgiou added: “GSG is a hugely exciting opportunity. We have a portfolio of outstanding sports businesses, the backing of CVC and an ambition to build something genuinely differentiated in global sport.
“There is a significant opportunity to accelerate the value GSG can bring to its portfolio partners, combining expertise, relationships, and capabilities across sport, media, and technology, to help these leagues realise even more of their potential for the benefit of fans and players.
“I’ve spent much of my career at the intersection of sport, media, audiences and commercial growth, and I’m incredibly excited to bring that experience to GSG and lead the group through its next phase.”
Paramount Skydance finally completed its acquisition of WBD late last month after a US federal judge approved the $111 billion deal. The company followed that up by announcing Ynon Kreiz as co-chief of the combined entity.
Earlier this month, Luis Silberwasser departed as the chairman and chief executive of the TNT Sports pay-TV broadcaster, with CBS Sports head David Berson appointed to take over the media behemoth’s combined sports group.
Georgiou’s soon-to-be replacement as president of Europe and Africa is one of four regional leaders in JB Perrette’s (co-chair and chief business officer of Skydance’s TV and direct-to-consumer divisions) international set-up, sitting alongside APAC and MENA boss James Gibbons, Poland president Kasia Kieli, and LatAm/U.S. lead Fernando Medin.
The latter three have retained their roles. Georgiou replaced Antonio Ruiz in 2023 and was instrumental in big moves like the launch of TNT Sports.
