Chinese electric car brand BYD has signed up as a major sponsor of Argentine domestic soccer’s LPF league body.

Through a commercial deal unveiled earlier this week, BYD becomes the new main sponsor of the 30-team Liga Profesional de Fútbol.

The deal will involve brand activations and experiences linked to the top tier of Argentine soccer.

BYD is currently growing as a brand in Argentina, having launched in that market last October, and – according to some reports – is already dominating the electric and hybrid sector in the country.

Francisco Duarte, chief executive of the LPF, commented: “BYD’s involvement reflects the appeal of Argentine football to companies with an international presence. We are excited to begin this journey alongside a brand recognized for its innovation.”

Nicolas Konsol, BYD Argentina’s marketing manager, added: “Becoming the main sponsor of the Professional League is an opportunity to continue bringing BYD closer to people, support their interests, and strengthen our presence throughout the country.”

In terms of recent BYD soccer sponsorship activity, in July, the Chinese brand unveiled a tie-up with French domestic champions Paris Saint-Germain, through June of 2029.

It is also the training kit sleeve sponsor for England’s Manchester City, while in South America, it has a partnership in place with Brazilian heavyweights Corinthians.

For the LPF, meanwhile, last November saw Mercado Libre named as the league’s naming rights sponsor, in a deal stretching through the 2027 season.

Mercado Libre replaced betting brand Betano in that capacity.

Other significant LPF sponsors, meanwhile, include Pirelli, Gatorade, Lay’s, NaranjaX, and Medife.

The 2026 LPF season began in late January and is running through until December 12, with the first half of the overall campaign – the Torneo Apertura – having been won by Belgrano.
