L'Équipe, the French free-to-air digital and terrestrial channel, has secured rights to top-tier table tennis for the next three years, through a deal with the World Table Tennis (WTT) organization.

That body, which manages the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) commercial rights, has sold L'Equipe these rights across France, Andorra, Monaco, and the island of Mauritius, as well as across the assorted French Overseas Territories.

They extend across L'Equipe's linear channels and its streaming platform, L'Equipe Live, as well as the broadcaster's mobile and smart TV apps.

The network will broadcast every match featuring French players – live or delayed – with French commentary.

The tie-up, unveiled today, covers the full range of top WTT series, including Grand Smashes, WTT Champions, WTT Star Contenders, WTT Contenders, and the end-of-season WTT Finals.

In addition, it extends to the ITTF World Table Tennis Championship Finals.

For WTT, this agreement follows on from broadcast rights deals being unveiled in Germany (Dyn) and the US (FanDuel TV) earlier this week.

Heavyweight sports agency IMG is the long-term strategic partner of WTT for broadcast rights sales and exploitation, through a 2020 deal.

In terms of other WTT broadcast rights activity over the last few months, mid-September saw that body unveil a four-year deal with CazeTV, the Brazilian sports streaming channel run by streamer Casemiro Miguel and the LiveMode agency.
