The SailGP international sailing series has unveiled its 13th team ahead of the 2026 season – the Artemis Racing outfit, from Sweden.

That team will make its debut as a SailGP side next January, when the sixth season of SailGP gets underway off the coast of Perth, Australia.

It is being led by chief executive Iain Percy, a former Olympic gold medallist who was team manager at Artemis Racing during the side's various campaigns in the high-profile America's Cup competition (including in 2013 and 2017).

Artemis is added to the two sides to have already joined SailGP so far in 2025 – representing Italy, and Brazil – while this year has also seen several high-profile team acquisitions.

A tender process for two new SailGP teams began in June, and concluded earlier this month. The Sports Business Group of professional services heavyweight Deloitte provided financial and advisory services to the UK-based league.

Russell Coutts, chief executive at SailGP, has said: "We’re thrilled to welcome the Artemis SailGP team to the SailGP Championship. Bringing a remarkable depth of talent, experience, and professionalism that will undoubtedly elevate the competitiveness of the league, they’re expected to be a real contender from the very first race of the 2026 season.”

Percy added: "I’m proud to lead the Artemis SailGP Team as we return to the global stage with a clear focus – leveraging cutting-edge technology, a world-class line-up, and the hard-won lessons from America’s Cup.

"Bringing Sweden into this elite championship is a milestone we’re proud of, and we’re determined to compete at the very highest level – pushing boundaries both on and off the water.”

Last month, SailGP moved to consolidate its future racing calendar by extending its hosting deals in Germany, Australia, Brazil, the US, the UK, and the UAE.

Perth in Australia, which will host its first SailGP event next year, will now feature on the calendar until at least 2028, while Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro will follow up its already-confirmed 2026 debut with another event in 2027.

Bermuda has also extended its deal through 2028, while New York City's Grand Prix will be staged in 2026 (May 30 to 31) and 2027 (June 5 to 6).

The competition’s UK stop at Portsmouth and the Dubai GP in the UAE have extended their hosting rights for one more year through 2027.

Next year's competition will be contained entirely within the 2026 calendar, with an 11-month fixture schedule that will begin in January in Perth. Previous years have competed across the new year.

When the league was first established in 2019, the aim then was to transition to a model where teams were privately owned within five years, and over the last few months, significant progress towards that goal has been made.

Most recently, US sports-focused investment firm Next 3 Ventures took a stake in the US SailGP Team, while in June, the French team had its final stake sold to US private equity firm Ares Management.
