Press Association Launches Online Channel for Global Sports Wire

The Press Association, the national news agency for the UK and Ireland, has launched a new web-based breaking sports news service, PA Sportsfile, which gives subscribers instant access to news and results from leading competitions and events around the world.

The service is located at www.pasportsfile.com and is the online version of the main PA Domestic and International Sports Wires which feeds breaking news, results, statistics and editorial into the newsrooms of the UK media via satellite.

With over 1000 stories transmitted every day, PA Sportsfile is a news monitoring and reference tool rather than a content service. It is targeted at a wide range of sport and business professionals who would benefit from seeing breaking news before it reaches the public domain and who do not have access to the main PA Wire.

This includes sports PR and marketing agencies, agents, clubs, betting companies, governing bodies and sponsors of major sporting events.

For example, PR and marketing agencies will use PA Sportsfile to pre-empt media coverage and monitor the interest in a particular sport or client, while betting companies will benefit from access to breaking scores, results and form guides to set their odds.

PA Sportsfile features a searching and profiling system which enables users to retrieve news of relevance to their organisation. Content can be filtered by country and sport, and users can access a 21 day archive of stories.

Annual subscription covers either or both channels – Domestic and International Sport – and includes the full range of PA’s sports content gathered by its network of global sports reporters.

In addition to its network of UK journalists, PA has a staff reporter at every top flight football club in Italy, Spain, Germany, France and Holland as well as journalists in 52 European countries (including recent addition Kazakhstan), US, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, India, Pakistan and Japan.

Chris Buckley, Managing Director of PA Sport, said ‘We developed PA Sportsfile to extend the same breaking sports service to commercial customers as our traditional media customers. This can give them a crucial time advantage in planning and monitoring news which affects their business.’

PA is offering a free week’s trial to interested customers, who should register on the website (www.pasportsfile.com) or email sportsfile@pa.press.net.
