Starr Insurance has expanded its relationship with the New York Yankees, of North America’s Major League Baseball (MLB), in a deal that sees the insurance and investment firm become the team’s top-level signature partner through 2031.

The deal, announced yesterday (July 12), sees Starr continue as the official commercial insurance company of the Yankees and become the team’s first jersey patch partner. The Starr Insurance logo will appear on the Yankees’ uniforms from July 21.

New York City-based Starr will also benefit from new signage at the Yankee Stadium, which is based in the Bronx area of the US city, additional to its existing signage there.

Elsewhere, it will serve as the official presenting sponsor of the Yankees’ gameday lineup posts on social media and will work with the New York Yankees Foundation on community initiatives.

The new deal builds upon a partnership that began in 2018.

The Yankees had brought on board Legends Global Partnership, a division of the premium experiences firm, to help them find an inaugural jersey patch sponsor for the 2023 season.

Starr joins major brands including PepsiCo, Delta Airlines, Mastercard, Anheuser-Busch InBev, and Canon as a partner of the Yankees.

Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner said: “We are extremely proud to welcome Starr Insurance as the Yankees’ first-ever signature partner. Having had Starr as an insurance carrier of ours for the last decade and having worked closely with their leadership team as part of our preestablished partnership, it is clear that Starr is the right company to embark with on this landmark relationship.

“There were many aspects of Starr that aligned with our organization, including their century-plus history, significant New York presence, worldwide reach, and unparalleled commitment to the community.”

Maurice R Greenberg, chair and chief executive of Starr, added: “Starr and the Yankees, one of the world’s most widely recognized professional sports teams, share important values – including a commitment not just to teamwork and winning, but to excellence in how we do business and serve a broad range of constituencies. We’re proud of the unique partnership we have forged over the past five years and have now deepened for many years to come.”
