Valencia CF, the Spanish LaLiga soccer club, has signed an innovative shirt sponsorship deal with, the blockchain-based fan engagement platform.

The tie-up, which was agreed with Socios parent company Chiliz, will see the $VCF, the club’s fan token, feature on the front of the club’s playing shirts in the 2021-22 season.

Although it has partnerships with various soccer clubs, this represents the company's first shirt deal.

Valencia is also the first club to feature a fan token logo on its shirts.

Socios will replace Bwin, the international online betting operator, as Valencia's main sponsor.

The club’s fan tokens will be launched on the Socios platform.

These will five owners the ability to influence day-to-day decisions by voting in polls on issues such as in-stadium designs, celebration anthems, club mottos, player challenges and shirt designs.

In addition, Valencia and Socios will collaborate on fan experiences such as the opportunity to meet players.

The Socios platform already features fan tokens from the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and AS Roma.
