IC Markets, the Australian online foreign exchange broker, has added six clubs from Spanish soccer’s top-tier LaLiga to its growing sponsorship portfolio for the ongoing 2021-22 season.

The deals, brokered by international sports marketing agency Sportfive, are with Real Sociedad, Athletic Club de Bilbao, Getafe CF, Granada CF, RCD Mallorca and Cadiz CF.

They follow the announcement last week of tie-ups with six clubs in Germany's top-tier Bundesliga and, together with those, represent IC Markets' first such pan-European activity in soccer.

The LaLiga partnerships look much the same as those in the Bundesliga, with IC Markets primarily being afforded LED perimeter advertising, with the aim of building a TV presence in the Spanish market, as well as rights for logo and IP use from each club.

The company’s first involvement in soccer, and indeed sport, came last year through a one-year sleeve sponsorship deal of Inter Milan, of Italian the top-tier Series A, for the 2020-21 season. That was believed to be worth around €10 million ($11.3 million) per year.

Hendrik Schiphorst, chief executive of Sportfive Germany, said: “The eye-catching TV presence at the La Liga and Bundesliga clubs will contribute a great deal to increase the awareness for IC Markets in Spain and Germany as core markets. We are happy that, thanks to our vast sales network, we were able to facilitate these first-class partnerships in Europe’s number one sport that will help the brand to achieve the communication objectives.”
