28 March 2000 Hong Kong – Yugoslavia National Team, one of the top finalists of Euro 2000 confirmed their final preparation match in Hong Kong on 3rd June. The Team will play against the South China Hong Kong Selection at the 40,000-seated Hong Kong Stadium. The match will kick-off at 15:00 p.m. local time (07:00 a.m. GMT). Brank Bulatovic, General Secretary of Yugoslav Football Association (YFA) confirmed in a letter to the Hong Kong Football Association that the YFA will bring the full squad who will play in the Euro 2000 to Hong Kong. The National Team includes some of the world best footballers such as Sinisa Mihajlovic (Lazio), Dejan Stankovic (Lazio), Vladimir Jugovic (Inter Milan), Darko Kovacevic (Juventus), Predrag Mijatovic (Fiorentina) and Jovan Stankovic (Real Marllorca). The Team will be flying straight from Hong Kong to Belgium the day after the match. Mr. Victor Hui Chun-fui, MBE, JP, Chairman of the South China Athletic Association (S.C.A.A.) said in today’s press conference, “In celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Association, we are pleased to have been able to secure one of the top Euro 2000 teams to Hong Kong. We have considered the ‘star player’ factor and believe that Hong Kong football fans would be delighted to see all these players such as Mihajlovic, Stankovic, Kovacevic, Mijatovic and Jugovic in action.” Mr. Li Chi Keung, Football Committee Convenor of S.C.A.A. told the press, “Given the fact that Yugoslavia National Team will be playing their first match against Slovenia on June 14, we expect they will use the Hong Kong match to crystallize the team and to select the best 11 for the Slovenia match.” The Yugoslavia National Team is top of the Euro 2000 Group C and is currently ranked number 12 in the world.
