World class athletes are set to speak at a brand new and unique sponsorship conference in Glasgow next month. British/Bermudan sailing champion, Emily Nagel and elite mountain endurance athlete and ambassador for Patagonia, Chloë Lanthier have joined Paralympic ski guide, Brett Wild, in being announced as speakers at Via Sponsorship.

Via Sponsorship is the first conference of its type in Scotland. Taking place at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow on 5 & 6 March, 2019, the conference will look to educate businesses and athletes on the value, importance, processes and power of sponsorship in sport. It will feature an array of top-tier presentations, case studies, panel discussions and valuable workshops given by experts within the industry.

Mel Young, chair of headline sponsor, sportscotland, will be among the speakers. As president and co-founder of the Homeless World Cup, an organisation established to use sport as a mechanism to create change, Mel’s experience and passion in the power of sport will be a real asset to the conference.

Via Sponsorship will invite athletes from numerous sporting disciplines to share their experiences of sponsorship throughout their sporting careers and connect, communicate and divulge vital tips.

Covering a variety of bases, Scotland’s Brett Wild will talk about his life as ski guide to three-time Paralympic medallist Millie Knight and sponsorship within the snowsports sector.

Professional sailor Emily Nagel, the youngest female in the 2017/18 Volvo Ocean Race on board AksoNobel, will be presenting herself as a sponsorship case study in the sport of sailing.  In a highly successful yacht racing career Emily won the Student Match Racing Worlds 2014, finished 7th in the ISAF Team Racing Worlds in 2015 and was part of TeamBDA in the Youth Americas Cup 2017. She was also part of the design and shore team with SoftBank Team Japan in the America's Cup in 2017.

Endurance athlete and entrepreneur Chloë Lanthier will discuss how sponsorship has helped her to achieve her sporting ambitions whilst studying and running her own business. Crowned Canadian Adventure and Expedition Athlete of the Year, Chloë's long list of racing highlights include five Marathon des Sables, the Iditarod Trail Invitational and Raid Delta iPorts. With an MSc in Biomechanics & Human Performance and a BA in Exercise Physiology, Chloë is also the founder of X-Training School, an institution which provides education for sport medical specialists focusing on rehabilitation and performance training.

An ambassador for Patagonia, Chloë said: “Patagonia really understood my sport and I became an ambassador for the sport as they believed in me so that was the beginning of our relationship. They sent me around their stores across the states to do talks, paying for all my travel and they were and have been extremely supportive.”

The conference will also feature a session with the MacLean brothers – Jamie, Ewan and Lachlan – who will touch on their quest for sponsorship to take on the mighty Talisker Whiskey Challenge. This is one of the world’s toughest rows, stretching more than 3000 miles across the Atlantic, and the MacLeans are aiming to become the first three brothers to row across any ocean.

As well as high-profile speakers, the conference is set to attract businesses, sponsors, delegates and athletes within the industry and will feature plenty of opportunities to network throughout the two days.
