The current ranked number one of the BCM showjumping list, Willi Melliger from Switzerland, will head the field of top class showjumpers at Munich (14th -16th May 1999). Among the favourites has to be Austrian Hugo Simon, who is always extremely popular with the crowd. Competition will be tough as Holland is sending their leading riders Jos Lansink and Jan Tops. The weekend will tell if Markus Fuchs (Austria) was able to maintain his outstanding form demonstrated at Dortmund last month, where he was the clear winner of the last World Cup qualifier with the chestnut stallion Tinka’s
Boy.

A whole string of young newcomers is also putting in an appearance. The majority of them made headlines in the past half year by triumphing over more experienced and higher ranked riders. German Toni Hassmann is one to look out for as his only 8 year old Cabrio is getting used to snatching the titles of the ‘big boys’. Fierce battles canalso be expected between two ladies: Brazilian Luciana Diniz and Samantha McIntosh, who formerly represented New Zealand but changed to Bulgarian citizenship recently.

A royal touch to the proceedings will be added by HRH Princess Haya of Jordan, who is back on the circuit after some time off following the tragic loss of her father King
Hussein of Jordan.
