The starters flag will drop this Saturday morning at exactly 09.00hrs. The event will be the 2013 Waterski Racing World Championships of the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF). The first day, this Saturday September 7th, will feature Race 1 for Women, Juniors and Men at the magnificent Puerto Colon site in the south of Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands.
At this moment, the very exotic highly tuned race boats are arriving by Container with their teams at Puerto Colon. Some have come from as far as Australia. This year, more than 80 teams from around the world will compete for the coveted title of IWWF Waterski Racing World Champion. Each team comprises a Driver, Observer and Skier and all have a vital role to play. This is an extreme sport by any standards and the scheduled Webcast will give a unique close-up view of the enormous challenge involved. With temperatures of 27C/81Fh and north easterly breezes of 11mph/18kph forecasted, this will certainly be a thriller!
For all the fans around the world, Tenerife is on GMT – London time. The World Waterski Racing Championships Webcast will be available at : http://www.skirace.net
The Waterski Racing Classes involved in these World Championships will include Open Men, Open Women, F2 Men, F2 Women, Junior Girl and Junior Boy. The main contenders will be from the USA, Australia, Austria, Great Britain, Belgium, Spain and New Zealand. Both Great Britain and Belgium alone will have eleven boats each in Tenerife ! That is about 10 Container loads. As a spectacle at the Puerto Colon site, when the water gets churned up by the enormous high speed boat flotilla in each category, this will be quite a sight for the spectators. For the Ski Racers, staying on course at speeds of up to 160kmh will be the ultimate test of both skill and bravery.
Dusty Schulz (USA), IWWF World Racing Council Chairman, will oversee this highlight event of the Waterski Racing calendar and will also be joined by Gill Hill, Secretary General of the IWWF.
