Benfield Sports International (BSI) has announced the Wales Tourist Board (WTB) as the Official Destination Host Sponsor for the FIM British Speedway Grand Prix on 14 June 2003.
The 2003 FIM British Speedway Grand Prix is the third year the world championship event has been held at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, where over 40,000 fans from all over Europe will converge on the Welsh capital for the event that is televised to over 140 markets worldwide.
Commenting on the sponsorship deal Roger Pride, Director of Marketing at the Wales Tourist Board said: ‘The Grand Prix brings a great boost to the Welsh economy and shows the diversity of events that Wales can host. It’s also a great example of how invaluable the WTB Events Marketing Support Scheme is in order to secure new events for Wales in the future.
Pride continues: ‘The SGP Series generates massive worldwide television coverage and combined with the great media interest in the event will significantly help to maximise the awareness of both Cardiff and Wales as a tourist destination.’
The three year deal, which includes event banners, media backdrop signage as well as advertising and tickets, is part of a new sponsorship category for the nine round world championship FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series (SGP).
Chief Executive, Benfield Sports International, John Postlethwaite explains:
‘This is the first of three destination sponsorships that we will be announcing this year. I think it’s a credit to how quickly we have grown the awareness of the Series to see the economic input it delivers to the cities and countries we visit.’
