VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(CCNMatthews – Mar 19, 2004) -The Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation – responsible for developing Canada’s successful bid for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games – has issued audited financial statements that reflect the completion of its primary activities.

The Bid Corporation was formed in June 1999 to oversee Canada’s Bid for the 2010 Winter Games on behalf of its Member Partners including the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the City of Vancouver and the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

Audited financial statements to September 30, 2003 show an
overall Bid expenditure of $35.5 million with a surplus of
$573,410.

‘The books have been closed, the bills have been paid and there’s a surplus in the bank,’ said Jack Poole, chairman of the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation. ‘The Bid was even able to handle the last minute surprises that came our way. The surplus will go to the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee.’

More than $35 million was raised to fund the Bid with about half coming from the private sector and half coming from the Bid’s Government partners. More than 275 companies and organizations – large and small, local and national – supported the Bid with cash and in-kind services. Through the 2010 LegaciesNow program, more
than $4.8 million was devoted to sport and athlete development during the life of the Bid.

The audited financial statements are available on the Internet at www.vancouver2010.com.
