Umbro, the specialist football brand, has signed a deal to become the new technical sponsor of the record Turkish champions, Galatasaray SK.

The professional team as well as six junior teams of the most successful club in Turkey will wear Umbro playing and training products in a partnership running from June 2002 through to 2004.

The contract was negotiated through Galatasaray’s marketing partner SPORTFIVE and signed with Galatasaray Sportif A.S., the commercial arm of Galatasaray SK which holds all the media and marketing rights of Galatasaray. The technical sponsorship package is valued at close to Euro 1 million per annum including upfront payment, team kit, guaranteed royalty payment from replica sales and performance based bonuses.

Following the tradition of awarding one star for every five championships won, Galatasaray SK has recently been conferred their third star for winning their fifteenth Turkish Championship. This gives Umbro the honour of producing the first ever shirt in the Turkish League to be adorned with three golden stars. The new Umbro collection will be presented at the beginning of August 2002.
