UEFA concludes marketing agreement with Dentsu Inc.

UEFA appoints Dentsu as Japanese marketing agent for three major championships

UEFA today announced that it has concluded an agreement with Dentsu Inc. of Tokyo, Japan to act as official UEFA marketing agent in Japan to sell official sponsorships for three major UEFA championships.

The events covered in the agreement are the UEFA Euro 2004™ to be held in Portugal, the UEFA Under-21 Championship in 2004 and the UEFA European Women’s Championship in 2005.

The UEFA European Football Championship is held every four years. The final tournament consists of sixteen European nations competing for the coveted Henri Delaunay Cup and the prestige of being crowned as Champions of Europe.

Televised matches from EURO 2000™ captured a worldwide audience of over seven billion, making this the largest European football event and the third most popular sporting event in the world.

The contract gives Dentsu the exclusive right to sell the sponsorship packages for the three championships to Japanese corporations. It also gives Dentsu the primary right to sell the sponsorship packages to Chinese corporations subject to UEFA approval.

Since the UEFA European Football Championship in France in 1984, Dentsu has been actively involved in the UEFA European Football Championship as a marketing agent for Japan, contributing primarily in the area of sponsorship sales. The recent agreement between UEFA and Dentsu was made in recognition of the many years of Dentsu’s involvement in this major football event.
