TVNW to Host Broadcast World Junior Badminton Championships
24 October – TVNW Media Group has been named as host broadcaster of the 2004 World Junior Badminton Championships, to be held this weekend in Richmond, BC, Canada. A highlights package from the individual competition will be produced and given three separate airings on national cable sports channel TSN.
It is the first time that the biennial World Junior Badminton Championships have been held in the Americas. Badminton BC, the organiser of the event, expects strong local and regional support. In total, more than 600 athletes from 30 countries are competing in the Championships.
‘The International Badminton Federation is very pleased that the organisers of the 2004 World Junior Championships have appointed TVNW to produce and broadcast coverage of the 2004 event,’ said the federation’s head of marketing, Simon Morton. ‘These Championships really are a showcase for the badminton stars of the future, and TVNW’s deal with the event organisers will give Canadian fans a great preview of the players who will be dominating world badminton in one or two year’s time.’
Ajay Patel, executive director of Badminton BC, added that ‘we feel fortunate that there is a company like TVNW in Vancouver to provide this kind of service for us. The fact that they are here was key in our decision to seek television coverage of the event.’
