TVNW Media Group has appointed Adrian Metcalfe as its first president, a move that will cement the Vancouver, Canada-based company’s position as one of the leading media agencies in North America.
Metcalfe, an Olympic and Commonwealth medalist and an influential figure in the sports broadcasting world, has directed and produced live Olympic Games television coverage, was the first head of sport at UK terrestrial broadcaster Channel 4, and launched pan-European sports channel Eurosport. He was named an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for services to sports broadcasting in 2000.
Metcalfe has worked closely with TVNW managing director Martin Perry in the past, both in the UK and in Canada, where he was responsible for distributing the television rights to the 2003 World Weightlifting Championships, produced by TVNW. The event received the widest coverage in the history of the sport.

Metcalfe’s appointment presages a major restructuring of TVNW, which now has seven divisions: sports production, original programming, facilities & outsourcing, corporate media services, media management, marketing and distribution.
The expansion of the TVNW Media Group brand comes after a highly successful year, in which the company provided over 90 hours of programming for Canadian national sports channel TSN and another 30 hours for UK terrestrial broadcaster Channel Five. Programming was also carried by many broadcasters around the world, including the BBC, Japan’s NHK, NTV in Russia, CCTV in China, Canal Plus in Europe, Canada’s CBC and a range of cable and satellite networks across Latin America, Asia and Africa.
