Amsterdam, The Netherlands (August 2004) – Tommy Hilfiger Europe B.V., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tommy Hilfiger Corporation (NYSE: TOM), has announced a sponsorship deal with Swedish golf star, Sophie Gustafson. The 30 year old professional golfer will wear the new Tommy Hilfiger Women’s golf apparel collection for Fall 2004 on her European tour.
‘It is very important to feel comfortable and confident on the golf course but at the same time, fashionable,’ enthused Sophie Gustafson. ‘The Tommy Hilfiger golf collection is not only functional but also extremely comfortable and fashionable, and I am looking forward to wearing it on Tour.’
‘We are delighted to announce our first ever Woman’s European golf sponsorship, alongside our first ever European Golf Collection and our stable of European golf apparel spokespersons, including Jamie Elson, Johan Edfors and Zane Scotland,’ said Avery Baker, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Tommy Hilfiger Europe. ‘Tommy Hilfiger Golf has an excellent pedigree in the US where Sophie has been very successful and we are looking forward to working with her as she performs around the world.’
Gustafson started playing golf at the age of ten and turned professional in 1992. She joined the WPGET in 1994 and has since notched up 14 victories. Last year she won three times in Europe, where she finished the year ranked Number 1. She has also won four US LPGA events, including the 2000 Weetabix Women’s British Open, and has represented Europe in the Solheim Cup four times.
The Tommy Hilfiger Women’s golf apparel collection made its debut at professional golf shops and resort apparel stores across Europe in January 2004.
