Volleyball’s international transfer market will undergo a change following the introduction of new rules adopted by delegates at the 27th FIVB World Congress on Thursday.
National teams chasing glory in competitions like the World Championships, World Cup and World League will be restricted to using only one naturalised player, who has played for his/her former country at the same international level. Previously there were no limits on numbers.
Countries can still pack their squads with foreign-born stars but they will have to restrict their appearances to one per tournament.
The Congress also approved a Board of Administration proposal for the recognition of players’ agents. This is likely to come into effect next year. Currently, the FIVB does not accept outside involvement. Any transfers will still need the approval of the respective National Federations.
