LUCERNE, Switzerland — Three rowers have tested positive for banned substances, the International Rowing Federation (FISA) said on Saturday.

The names and nationalities of the athletes will not be released until the federations and rowers involved have been told of the results.

FISA president Denis Oswald made the announcement at the finals of the rowing World Cup.

‘The executive committee of the federation is dealing with the cases,’ Oswald said.

‘According to our rules the procedure is to remain confidential until the athletes involved and their federations are informed of the decision.’

No details were given on when or where the tests were conducted but FISA said it expected to release all the information surrounding the tests on Sunday.
