ROME, June 12—The nations of Armenia, Uzbekistan, and Nigeria have recently adopted new cash incentive programs for winning medals and participating in the Olympic Games.

The Armenian government will be allocating its gold medal winning athletes $40,000, silver medallists $30,000 and bronze finalists $20,000 and even coaches will be able to enjoy the good fortune since they too will receive a good 45% of their athlete’s prize money. The head coach for each discipline stands to gain 55% of the total prize money accumulated overall in his sport.

Gold winning Uzbekistan athletes will also receive from their government stakes amounting to a good $100,000, silver $50,000 and bronze $25,000 which are very inspiring for a country that has an average monthly wage of less than $50.

Nigeria’s track and field federation is giving N100,000 to each of its athletes in preparation and the Ministry of Sports is negotiating extra grants to boost morale for the upcoming Olympiad.
