(Kaohsiung) The Kaohsiung Organizing Committee has already launched a unique design for the TWG 2009 medals. The medals relate to Kaohsiung as a harbor city, along with elements that symbolize various aspects of Taiwanese culture.
The medal for official sports is 8.5cm in width, while the one for invitational sports is 6.5cm.
Under the IWGA logo on the upper side, the waves represent magnanimity. The image of lilies carved on the reverse side is a token of freedom and purity in aboriginal culture. The butterfly on the right side of the IWGA logo symbolizes both nimbleness and intelligence.
In addition, Taiwan itself has been known as “The Kingdom of Butterflies”. The handmade lazurite bead represents aboriginal culture and honor.
More than 4,000 athletes from almost 100 countries will compete for a total of 1,452 medals in 26 official, and 5 invitational sports.
The World Games 2009 will take place from July 16-26, 2009.
