09.03.2006. The Northern Ireland Fencing Union (NIFU) – organisers of the forthcoming 2006 Commonwealth Fencing Championships – has appointed WGT Sport Limited to be the Official Supplier of Travel, Transport and Accommodation to the international showpiece in Belfast.

Chief Executive of the NIFU, Ian Sneddon was delighted to have WGT on board, commenting, “WGT has come highly recommended proving it can handle world-class events with professionalism and proficiency. With over five hundred competitors and officials attending this event, representing up to twenty different countries, it is imperative that we deliver an efficient transport and accommodation plan. WGT have an impressive and proven track record, and we’re looking forward to working together in what we trust will be a highly successful and mutually rewarding partnership”.

The 2006 Commonwealth Fencing Championships takes place in Belfast from 20th – 25th September 2006. This will be the ninth occasion on which the Commonwealth Fencing Federation have held their Championships since the last inclusion of Fencing in the main Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970. Since then the family of Commonwealth Fencing Nations has grown and the variety of Championships held has expanded to include Juniors and Veterans. The event has been scheduled just ahead of the 2006 World Championships in the hope that every country, no matter how distant, will be able to combine travel to Europe to both events for their elite fencers. It will be the first time the NIFU have hosted these Championships and they have secured the support of Belfast City Council and the Sports Council of Northern Ireland.

WGT Sport Limited recently announced that it has won similar contracts to provide transport, travel and accommodation services to the 2006 VISA Paralympic World Cup to be held in Manchester in May and the 2006 World Rowing Championships, which will be held at Eton in August.
