The World Academy of Sport (WAoS) today passed its congratulations to four of the six teams that it has been working with under the Pepsi International Cricket Council (ICC) Development Programme for successfully qualifying for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to be staged in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The WAoS has worked with each of the four qualifiers – Ireland, Kenya, Canada and the Netherlands – as well as Scotland which retained its ODI status after finishing sixth in the 12-team event. Afghanistan, which finished fifth, also earned ODI status.

The programme, developed and delivered in conjunction with WAoS, has assisted the ICC to quickly and effectively build the support structures and management capabilities of the teams.

ICC’s High Performance Manager Richard Done said: “The ICC gives more support than ever to the leading Associate Members and the work with the World Academy of Sport was an important part of this high performance assistance that we provided.”

Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom, reflecting on his team’s success, said:
‘“The support of the ICC has contributed positively to the success of our national team, and the High Performance Pathways course that was developed in partnership with the World Academy of Sport at the Manchester Business School really helped us build a consolidated plan for high performance.”

The academy works with many of the international federations and their national governing bodies to build tailor-made courses of this nature and also has a three-day open programme for national governing bodies wishing to take advantage of this solution to high performance pathway planning.

Director of the academy Chris Solly commented: Manchester Business School is different. Our approach of Original Thinking Applied sets us apart and this programme utilises this approach, applied to the world of sport.”

The next three-day Athlete Performance Pathways open programmes are:

Manchester– 26-28 May
Dubai — 21-23 June
Singapore — 13-15 July
