Today, in Beijing, the FISU Executive Committee consolidated its future by attributing three future Universiades. Many cities had presented very strong dossiers.
For the summer of 2003, the choice went to Taegu (KOR).

Korea has a very solid experience in the organization of sports events. In fact, in 1986 they held the Asian Games, in 1988 the Olympic Games, in 1997 the Winter Universiade and they are scheduled to host the Football World Cup in 2002! The dates will be from August 16 to 26, 2003. Ten compulsory sports make up the program: athletics, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, diving, waterpolo, football, tennis and fencing. Taegu, proposes another three optional sports: baseball, taekwondo and judo.

The FISU Executive Committee also attributed the organization of the 2005 Summer Universiade to the city of Izmir (TUR). This multi-sports event will boost the development of top sports facilities and new accomodations in this historical city.

For the Winter of 2003, the city of Tarvisio (ITA) has been chosen. Situated near the northeastern border of Italy, the city of Tarvisio is part of the Frioul-Venice Julienne region. The region has organized many winter sports events including the Alpine and Nordic Skiing World Cup competitions. The Winter Universiade will benefit from this long tradition. It will take place from January 16-26, 2003.
