The world’s best badminton players will return to Denmark, as the Danish Badminton Federation has just been awarded one more international Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super Series tournament until 2013.
During the past few months and with great anxiety, the world’s badminton nations have awaited a review from BWF in terms of the hosting conditions for all Super Series. The review implies that all potential hosts are to formally bid for the Super Series events and, furthermore, meet the significantly increased commercial demands stipulated by BWF.
President of the Danish Badminton Federation Peter Jensen explains: “ Denmark has a long-standing tradition for a Super Series tournament – Denmark Open – and belongs to one of the great nations in the world in terms of badminton. Therefore, in our successful bid we highlighted Denmark’s ability to stage major events, that Denmark is a safe place, that we have good facilities surrounding the venue, a well-functioning infrastructure and finally that Denmark is the leading European badminton nation. I would like to give credit to the professional staff and the volunteers, who are altogether a guarantee for our high level event hosting. Also, let me thank our partners and sponsors, especially the City of Odense. I do hope that our close cooperation will continue”.
Peter Jensen adds: “For Danish badminton it is of vital importance that our best players get the opportunity to expose themselves on homeground. And also, that our talents get a chance of gaining international experience. All in all, it gives the Danish audience the opportunity to watch world class badminton and the stars of tomorrow in the same tournament.”
Thus, with peace of mind, the Danish Badminton Federation can concentrate on their event work till 2013. And with a guaranteed Super Series tournament in Denmark Denmark is striving to have a Premium Super Series, too. Sport Event Denmark has guaranteed co-funding. The planned prize money is US Doll. 400,000
Chief Executive Lars Lundov, Sport Event Denmark says: ”Danish badminton enjoys great international recognition and so does Denmark as a sports event nation. We are talking a perfect match and we do hope that this flagship event can be added to our long list of events in Denmark in the years to come.
At their annual meeting in May , DWF decides which nations will get the right to stage the Premium Super Series.
