Stuttgart Confirmed as World Athletics Final Venue

Further to the approval of IAAF Council last weekend in Monaco (23 / 24 Nov) and the Local Organising Committee having been officially informed, the IAAF is pleased to confirm that the 2008 IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, 13 / 14 September 2008.

Next year’s final will take place, as it has done in 2006 and 2007, in Stuttgart’s Gottlieb Daimler Stadium which has also hosted editions of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics (1993) and European Championships (1986) during its illustrious athletics history.

A total of 36 events will again be contested at the Final: 18 Men and 18 Women.

The Final is the culmination of the competition year on the IAAF World Athletics Tour.

RIO 2008 – CHAMPIONSHIPS RENAMED

The IAAF can also confirm that the name of the IAAF World Road Running Championships has reverted back to its original title of the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, and this is effective from this year’s edition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday 12 October 2008.
