Sportsmedia Broadcasting Ltd Appoints Greville Waterman as Managing Director

Sportsmedia Broadcasting, the UK’s leading provider of bespoke radio sports bulletins, and sister company Businessmedia, which provides finance news, is delighted to announce the appointment of Greville Waterman as the company’s new Managing Director.

Waterman leaves 141 Sport and Entertainment, where he was Head of Business Development to take up his new role as MD to oversee the continued development of the company. He previously ran his own agency, The Sponsorship Consultancy for over ten years and cut his teeth with IMG in New York and is acknowledged as an industry expert.

Jonny Gould, who founded Sportsmedia in 1992 becomes Chief Executive Officer, and said:
“I’m thrilled we’ve signed someone of Greville’s capability. I hope he will have the same impact on us as Andy Gray did when he first joined Villa!

In order to take Sportsmedia to the next level, it was vital for me to create a management team of exceptional experience and credentials.

Greville’s arrival at Sportsmedia, given his overall talent and massive industry experience, will play a crucial role in taking us there.

We provide sports and business news to over one hundred radio stations throughout the UK each and every day and we reach a combined audience larger than any single national station.

We offer brands the opportunity to become part of the news agenda through incorporation in our unique editorial. Our audience is bigger and wider than ever, both on radio and the web”

Greville Waterman, Managing Director, said:
“I have known Jonny for a long time and we had often talked about joining forces and I believe that the blend will not be too combustible and we will work well together!

I just felt that the time was right for Sportsmedia to capitalize upon the benefits and uniqueness of its product offering and I am delighted to accept the challenge of helping take Sportsmedia to the next level.

Brands are looking for the tangible in their sponsorships and Sportsmedia’s guaranteed delivery of precise messaging within the news agenda fully embodies that philosophy”

It’s been an exciting 2009 for Sportsmedia; new clients have included Ladbrokes.com, who sponsored coverage of the Australian Open, E.ON, who backed FA Cup reports and totesport, who have sponsored the Oaks and Derby service.

This summer Sportsmedia will have reporters live on-site at the Wimbledon Championships and The Open Golf.
The Sportsmedia Bulletin Network which now extends to 110 stations increased its national reach by signing up Jazz FM for “a summer of sport” bulletin service and the company’s consumer-facing footballaudio.com was re-launched.
