Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal is pleased to announce the forthcoming World Congress of Sports, March 13-14 2002 at The Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

Presented by SportsBusiness Journal and Octagon, the World Congress of Sports has been designed to go well beyond normal conference fare by providing keen insights, discussion and vision from the industry elite. The event’s distinguished Advisory Board has been instrumental in helping craft a program that addresses the industry’s most pressing issues, and meets the true needs of senior-level sports executives.

The event will convene 500 sports industry leaders including team owners, presidents and executives; league commissioners and senior executives; broadcast, print and new media executives; corporate sponsors, advertisers and media buyers; leading sports marketers; top law firms and Wall Street analysts.

Each day of the Congress will begin and end with marquee sessions and roundtables comprised of key industry leaders. NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue will open the event with an address on ‘The Role of Sports in Today’s Society.’ The organizers have also put together the most distinguished speaker faculty ever assembled for an event on the business of sports. Sports Media & Marketing: Senior executives from teams and franchises, the media, leading brands, advertising agencies and sports marketing firms will assess marketplace fragmentation, the rising costs of the sports business, the implications of RSNs, the impact of competing entertainment programming and strategic initiatives that can be taken across the industry.

Facilities, Franchise Operations & Investment: Senior operations and financial executives from teams and franchises, as well as senior facility directors, the investment community and legal counsel will explore the economic model of sports, future financing options and strengthening franchise operations. Other key areas to be examined include ticketing innovations, maximizing revenue generation, labor issues and venue security.
