A newly formed partnership between GlobeCast Australia, the leading global satellite services company and Sportsbrand Media Group, the international sports media and marketing company, will see the creation of the first full-time, fixed international satellite uplink facility in Melbourne operating to AsiaSat 2.

The facility will provide uplink services for international sporting and special events in Melbourne as well as the international satellite distribution of Sportsbrand’s weekly television programs.

Sportsbrand will house the international satellite uplink at its extensive Melbourne production facilities which will be available for third party use, a service that is overdue given the large number of major sporting events held in that city.

Jeff Chapman, Chairman of the Bennelong Group which owns Sportsbrand, described the partnership as, ‘integral to the expansion of Sportsbrand’s service offerings’.

Sportsbrand’s CEO, Anil Nair, said: ‘We are extremely pleased to announce our partnership with GlobeCast Australia, which I am certain will improve service to our existing clients and provide huge benefits for producers who have previously had difficulties uplinking vision out of Melbourne.’

GlobeCast Australia’s CEO, Mike Lattin said: ‘GlobeCast Australia is excited about working with Sportsbrand in being able to provide this new facility in Melbourne and look forward to better servicing the needs of our clients locally and internationally.’

This new uplink facility is timely with Melbourne hosting the 2006 Commonwealth Games as well as servicing client’s needs for annual events such as The Australian Open Tennis and The Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix.
