These days, Sport Event Denmark has a delegation represented at the world’s largest sports convention, SportAccord, staged in Dubai between 25 and 30 April. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen already existing relationships and to establish new partnerships with the many participating international sports federations. Also, Sport Event Denmark is in Dubai to accumulate knowledge as to how Denmark can develop “green profile sports events” and extend the use of social media as a communication platform.
SportAccord is the place where the most far-reaching knowledge of sports events is gathered. Close to 100 of the international sports federations are in Dubai to exchange ideas and experience, and to address the many issues of tomorrow’s hosting of sports event.
On the Danish stand, Sport Event Denmark is interviewing representatives from the international sports federations about their reflections on 1) the challenges that organisers of sports events face when staging “green profile events” and 2) the role of social media in connection with the hosting of sports events. Why? Because staging of green profile events and the inclusion of social media in the Danish event organiser’s communication platform is on top of Sport Event Denmark’s future agenda.
The interviews are conducted in a Danish designer chair – the classic “The Egg” at Sport Event Denmark’s stand. “The Egg” is a strong Danish brand, which symbolises style, class and fine craftsmanship; exactly the same characteristics as Sports Events Made in Denmark.
Some of the interviews will be available at Sport Event Denmark’s website and at Sport Event Denmark’s youtube-channel. Furthermore, facebook and twitter will be used to communicate the many good ideas that the representatives from the international sports federations came up with.
Already now, a video clip from the Danish stand in Dubai with Kuno Ritschard, president International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation is available: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPrbcksjMcI
Background
Through the Danish government’s announcement of 2009 as the Danish Year of Sport, branded as ”Inviting the World of Sport”, Denmark really made its entry on the global sports events scene last year.
In 2009, Denmark hosted more than 50 major international sports events with the IOC Congress as the flagship. The experience gained will live on in future Danish sports events and strengthen Denmark’s position as a strong sports event destination.
