The aim of TV Sport Insight, the new report from Eurodata TV Worldwide, is to compare different sports, key competitions and main European markets*.
One of the main goals of this survey is to analyse the offer and consumption of Sport on TV in different countries.
In the first edition, based on the January – April 2004 period, soccer represents only 37,9% of the Sport offer proposed by the main Portuguese channels*. Even though, a Portuguese viewer spends 85,5% of his Sport TV consumption watching soccer, meaning 12 hours and 33 minutes.
Actually, soccer is the most followed Sport on TV by Portuguese but also by Italian (5 hours and 40 minutes), French (4 hours and 16 minutes), Spanish (3 hours and 52 minutes) and German (2 hours and 15 minutes).
By comparison, the Swedish viewer spends only 1 hour and 15 minutes watching soccer on TV (i.e 9,2% of his total TV Sport Consumption) which ranks soccer at the fifth position
behind Alpine Skiing, Ice Hockey, Athletics and Horse Sports as the most consumed Sports on TV.
Big International Sport events are present in the May – August 2004 period like the Tour de France or the Olympics. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if soccer with Euro 2004 can resist and still remain the most followed Sport on TV in the majority of the European
countries.
Stay tuned in September with the new edition of the TV Sport Insight report…
